Team Rocket Thesis

Okay, so here's my thesis for the time being:

No one individual knows what is best for all of society; therefore, it is necessary to establish, within the public sphere, a market place of ideas, where all citizens are able and required to submit their concerns, suggests, and thoughts, which will be put put into effect by a group of elected officials, thus improving society and moving towards establishing the best way to live.

  1. How do you escape tyranny of majority in public sphere? Or do you?
How do you establish a public sphere, doesn't it always exist? Or is there a conscious creation of one?
How do you judge that the officials are legislating the ideas from the public sphere?
Is there ONE best way to live? Does it follow a religion, a G-d, or something? Or is it O.K. to have differing opinions.
How do you judge if society it improving or not? And how do you define improvement? Is it economical, social, political, etc?
What do you do if a citizen does NOT submit their feedback/thoughts?
What happens if the election process is corrupted? Is there some fundamental moral/ethical thing (like Kant's categorical imperative) that would fall in to place? And where does rebellion come into this? Can we morally rebel against this system, or would you just bring your concerns to the public sphere?

  2. How will citizens know when they have established "the best way to live?" What if the elected individuals become corrupt, how does society recognize that, and what are their actions? If the citizens are required, would that make them not want to submit their ideas? If they dont submit their ideas what is the punishment? How will the elected individuals make sure that society is progressing towars the best way to live?
This is an excellent start to a very interesting paper! I hope I was helpful!

  3. Nice, solid thesis and ideas, Jessye.

What happens if the elected officials fail to perform in their duties, or go in a completely different direction than the one they promised? Is the marketplace of ideas a proper medium in which to propose rebellion? Would rebellion, an effectual reboot of the system, cause a step back from the "best way to live?"

  4. This is good, but how exactly does it move toward the "best way to live?" Is best just the "normal" or "majority" or are we working towards some hierarchy? How are you required to submit your ideas and make sure you clearly explain "the marketplace of ideas." Does all this require a good universal system of education?
