Democracy needs to be constantly re evaluated by it's subjects, and in doing this we ensure that it remains a just representation of the people that it represents and that gives it power.
I was also going to go into how we as moral beings have the duty to contribute to the public sphere in order to improve our society and help it be as mobile as a a democracy fundamentally should be. I also realize that if i use the word "just", then I'll need to go into the meaning of just by all of the philosophers that are required for our paper, so I'll go into that as well.
If you use "we" Elise will probably cry.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have a duty to contribute? How do we go about re-evaluating-- is it the people's voice, or the majority's, or the elected official's, or what? And is the ultimate goal of a democracy simply to be a just representation of the people, or should it also be promoting positive good?
I like this :)
Nice!
ReplyDeleteNot only, as Hannah said, why do we have a duty to contribute, but what happens if someone doesn't? How does the government enforce it? SHOULD the government enforce it?
Also, how do the ideas that are generated in the m of i become a reality?
Call them citizens not "subjects." Most importantly, it seems, is that you need a definition of democracy so people know if they living up to it our not. Where does that come from? You don't need everyone's idea of justice, but you need a clear theory of justice as a part of democracy.
