Thesis (ish)

A sustainable form of government must allow its citizens the highest form of freedom: the freedom to be moral. The government must reflect a collective idea of morality, defined by an overlapping consensus of the citizens; the role of government becomes solely to provide physical security to the citizens by laws and enforcement based on the definition of morality that comes into existence through discussion in the public sphere.

  1. Isn't being moral actually limiting what you can do and therefore not allowing you to be at the highest form of freedom? How can you make sure the government will reflect the ideas of society?

  2. How is the collective idea of morality different than tyranny of the majority? How can the government incorporate the morality of the minority? Define sustainable- England is still under a monarchy, so wouldn't that be considered sustainable?
What form does discussion in the public sphere take? Would it be town meetings, or would it be decided by a vote?
